FAQ

Questions we hear a lot.

Is there an MEI written test?

No. Since you already passed the Flight Instructor Airplane knowledge test for your CFI, the FAA does not require a separate MEI written. You will, however, get a thorough oral on multi-engine systems and aerodynamics at the practical.

How long does MEI training take?

Most CFIs with a current multi-engine rating finish in 2–3 weeks. The work is learning to demonstrate and teach engine-out procedures and Vmc demonstrations safely from the right seat.

Do I get to log multi-engine PIC time as the instructor?

Yes. When you are the authorized instructor on board, you log instruction given as PIC time — including in the Seneca. That is one of the fastest ways to build the multi-engine hours airlines look for.

What airplane will I train and test in?

Our Piper Seneca II (PA-34-200T) — the same twin our commercial-multi students fly. You will know the aircraft and the local procedures before checkride day.
