10What it is

Twintime.Onthebooks.

Multi-engine time building is exactly what it sounds like — hour-building in a real twin. The Seneca II runs the way airline and corporate hiring departments want to see those hours logged: real cross-country, real IFR, real systems management.

PrivilegesWhat you can do

  • Build toward 50 hr of multi-engine time required for ATP (14 CFR 61.159)
  • Strengthen insurance-required ME time for corporate or charter roles
  • Develop twin-engine systems and procedure habits employers expect
  • Flexible scheduling — fly as your timeline and budget allow
  • Log multi-engine cross-country, night, and instrument time

LimitationsAnd what you can't

  • CFI flies in the right seat — flights are dual unless you already hold CMEL
  • Does not by itself qualify you for a multi-engine add-on (that is CMEL)
  • Not a certificate or rating — no checkride and no FAA practical test
  • Aircraft class limited to multi-engine land (PA-34 Seneca II)
Prerequisites
  • Commercial Pilot Certificate (COMM-ASEL) recommended
  • Multi-Engine Add-On (CMEL) recommended for PIC time logging
  • Current FAA medical certificate
  • Logbook in good standing

FAQ

Questions we hear a lot.

Do I need a multi-engine rating to start time building?

Not to fly the Seneca with a CFI — but to log PIC multi-engine time, you'll need a Multi-Engine Add-On (CMEL). Most pilots in this program already hold CMEL and are stacking hours toward ATP minimums.

How much multi-engine time do I actually need?

14 CFR 61.159 requires 50 hours of multi-engine flight time for the unrestricted ATP certificate. Most airline and corporate operators want more than the FAA minimum — block hour packages let you build to whatever number the hiring department wants to see.

What kind of flying do these hours include?

Cross-country flight planning for twin-engine aircraft, multi-engine systems management, complex procedure practice, plus night and IFR multi-engine operations. The point is logging hours that look like real operational flying, not just pattern work.

Is there a checkride at the end?

No. Multi-engine time building is not a certificate or rating — it's structured hour-building. There's no FAA practical test, no written exam, and no endorsement at the finish. You walk away with logged multi-engine time and twin-engine experience.
